OVERVIEW:

Spherical to pear-shaped cells, 1.4–3.0 × 1.4–3.0 µm. Gram-stain-negative. Cells reproduce by budding, with the single daughter cell a mirror image of the mother cell, and there may be a narrow bud attachment site. Cells can bud repeatedly. Cells possess a multitrichous bundle of flagella. Aerobic, having a strictly aerobic type of metabolism with oxygen as the terminal electron acceptor. Colonies have pink pigmentation.DNA G+C content (mol%): 64.4 ± 1.0 (Tm). Type species: Gemmata obscuriglobus.
