ExiguobacteriumRANK: GenusTAXONOMY: Terrabacteria group -> Firmicutes -> Bacilli -> Bacillales -> Bacillales incertae sedis -> Bacillales Family XII. Incertae Sedis -> Exiguobacterium OVERVIEW: Cells may be ovoid or short rods occurring singly, in pairs, or chains. Gram-stain-positive and not acid-fast. Nonsporeforming. Motile. Facultatively anaerobic and catalase-positive. No growth at 10 or 45°C. Gas is not produced. Acid is produced from d-glucose and some other sugars. The cell-wall murein is based on l-lysine. Menaquinones are the sole respiratory quinones, with menaquinone-7 predominating. Mycolic acids are not present. The long-chain cellular fatty acids consist of a mixture of straight-chain saturated, anteiso- and iso-methyl branched, and monounsaturated types. The polar lipids are diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylserine and phosphatidylethanolamine; phosphatidylinositol and unidentified phospholipids may be present. The G+C content of the DNA is 46.6–55.8 mol% (T m ). Type species: Exiguobacterium aurantiacum
