BrevundimonasRANK: GenusTAXONOMY: cellular organisms -> Bacteria -> Proteobacteria -> Alphaproteobacteria -> Caulobacterales -> Caulobacteraceae -> Brevundimonas OVERVIEW: The 'Brevundimonas' are a genus of proteobacteria. Gram-negative, rod-shaped, subvibrioid or vibrioid cells, 0.4–0.5 × 1–2 µm. Cells of some species can form prosthecae (stalks). These species are characterized by an asymmetric cell division whereby fission results in a prosthecate (nonmotile) and a flagellated (motile) cell. Motility by means of single polar flagella. Nonsporeforming. A yellow or orange carotenoid pigment may be formed. This genus contains microbial species that can reside in the human gastrointestinal tract. [PMC 4262072]
