Flavonifractor

RANK: Genus

TAXONOMY: Bacteria -> Terrabacteria group -> Firmicutes -> Clostridia -> Clostridiales -> unclassified Clostridiales -> Flavonifractor

OVERVIEW:

Rods, usually Gram-positive, the majority of species form oval/spherical endospores that usually distend the cell, usually catalase negative, most species are obligately anaerobic, although tolerance to oxygen varies widely, growth is most rapid at pH 6.5-7 and 30-37 ºC. The spores resist 10 min. at 80 ºC. Clostridium spp. are resistant at colistin and sensitive to vancomycin.

This genus contains microbial species that can reside in the human gastrointestinal tract. [PMC 4262072]
