Formic acid

Formic acid is the simplest carboxylic acid, and is an important intermediate in chemical synthesis. It occurs naturally in some ants and in the trichomes of Utica dioica (stinging nettle). A major use of formic acid is as a preservative and antibacterial agent in livestock feed as well as cleaning products such as toilet bowl cleaner and limescale remover. It is also an effective treatment for warts.
