Citric acid

Citric acid is a weak organic tricarboxylic acid that occurs naturally in citrus fruits, as well as some vegetables. Citric acid is an intermediate of the TCA cycle, which is the source of two-thirds of the food-derived energy in higher organisms. Citrate is also a vital component of bone, helping to regulate the size. Citric acid is dominantly used as a flavoring additive in food and beverages, especially soft drinks. It is also used as one of the active ingredients in the production of antiviral tissues.
