Hemin

Hemin is an iron-containing porphyrin, which can also go by the trade name Panhematin. Hemin is made of red blood cells processed from human blood. It is used in the management of porphyria attacks, particularly in acute intermittent porphyria. Hemin helps control symptoms such as pain, increased heart rate or blood pressure, and changes in mental status. It works by lowering the production of a certain enzyme in the body.
