Low animal protein diet

A low animal protein diet favors consumption of plant foods including fruits, vegetables, legumes, grains, nuts, and seeds, and limits consumption of animal protein. This diet is recommended by The National Kidney Foundation for preserving kidney health. It has also been recommended to reduce the risk of various other chronic diseases including liver disease, osteoporosis, and heart disease, among others. Protein can readily be supplied in appropriate amounts from plant sources including beans, whole grains, and vegetables.
