Vitamin K

Vitamin K is a group of structurally similar, fat-soluble vitamins the the human body requires for complete synthesis of certain proteins involved in blood clotting and binding of calcium in bones and other tissues. Low levels of vitamin K impair blood clotting, weaken bones, and promote calcification of arteries and other soft tissues. Vitamin K1 is synthesized by plants and is found in highest amounts in green leafy vegetables. Bacteria in the gut flora convert K1 to K2.
