Aspartic acid

Aspartic acid is an α-amino acid that is used in the biosynthesis of proteins. It is semi-essential in humans, meaning the body can synthesize it from oxaloacetate. L-aspartic acid is one of the two main ingredients of the artificial sweetener aspartame, along with L-phenylalanine.
