Sarcodiotheca gaudichaudii (red seaweed)


Red seaweed, similar to Chondris crispus. Edible red seaweeds, Sarcodiotheca gaudichaudii and Chondrus crispus, are abundant along the coasts of the eastern Pacific Ocean and of western Atlantic Ocean. Red seaweeds are a rich source of lipids, polysaccharides, proteins, bioactive compounds and of secondary metabolites such as polyphenols as well as of minerals, which impart several health benefits.
