Fusobacterium
RANK: Genus
TAXONOMY: cellular organisms -> Bacteria -> Fusobacteria -> Fusobacteriia -> Fusobacteriales -> Fusobacteriaceae -> Fusobacterium
OVERVIEW:
Nonsporeforming rods that are Gram-stain-negative and obligately anaerobic. Metabolize peptone or carbohydrates in PY-glucose to produce butyrate, often with acetate and lower levels of lactate, propionate, succinate, and formate. DNA G+C content (mol%): 26–34.Type species: Fusobacterium nucleatum
This genus contains microbial species that can reside in the human gastrointestinal tract. [PMC 4262072]
