N-Acetyl-D-glucosamineN-Acetyl-D-glucosamine, or NAG, is a monosaccharide derivative of glucose. It is an amide between glucosamine and acetic acid. It is part of a biopolymer in the bacterial cell wall, which is built of alternating units of NAG and N-acetylmuramic acid; this layered structure is called peptidoglycan. It is also the monomer unit of chitin.
