Strictly anaerobic chemoorganotrophic bacteria of fermentative metabolism, nonphotosynthetic; inorganic electron acceptors not used. Typical cell-wall structure of Gram-positive bacteria without an outer membrane but Gram-negative staining. Nonsporeforming. DNA G+C content (mol%): 29.6 ± 1.0. Type species: Anaerovorax odorimutans
