Clostridium sardiniense
RANK: Species
TAXONOMY: Terrabacteria group -> Firmicutes -> Clostridia -> Clostridiales -> Clostridiaceae -> Clostridium -> Clostridium sardiniense
OVERVIEW:
Synonym: Clostridium absonum. In humans, ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) can be introduced exogenously via therapies (Ursodiol), or endogenously produced by epimerization of the 7α-hydroxy of CDCA by 7α-HSDH and 7β-HSDH found in single species (Clostridium absonum) or two separate species expressing one or the other HSDH [PMID: 26579434]
This species has been identified as a resident in the human gastrointestinal tract based on the phylogenetic framework of its small subunit ribosomal RNA gene sequences.[PMC 4262072]
