Eubacteriaceae

RANK: Family

TAXONOMY: cellular organisms -> Bacteria -> Terrabacteria group -> Firmicutes -> Clostridia -> Clostridiales -> Eubacteriaceae

OVERVIEW:

The family Eubacteriaceae, defined by the phylogenetic position of its members, comprises the genera Eubacterium, Acetobacterium, Alkalibacter, Alkalibaculum, Anaerofustis, Garciella, and Pseudoramibacter. Only those few species are members of the authentic genus Eubacterium which are phylogenetically related to the type species Eubacterium limosum. Non-authentic Eubacterium species are phylogenetically placed in other families with more close relationships to species of other genera. Uniform or pleomorphic nonspore-forming, Gram-stain-positive rods. Nonmotile or motile. Obligately anaerobic. Chemoorganotrophs, saccharoclastic or nonsaccharoclastic. Usually produce mixtures of organic acids from carbohydrates or peptone, often including large amounts of butyric, acetic, or formic acids.
