Ruminococcus lactaris
RANK: Species
TAXONOMY: Terrabacteria group -> Firmicutes -> Clostridia -> Clostridiales -> Ruminococcaceae -> Ruminococcus -> Ruminococcus lactaris
OVERVIEW:
Ruminococcus lactaris (GenBank Accession Number for 16S rDNA gene: L76602) is a member of the Firmicutes division of the domain bacteria and has been isolated from human feces. The sequenced strain was obtained from ATCC (ATCC# 29176). This is from the Human Gut Microbiome Initiative. The available GenBank Accession Number is for the 16S rDNA gene of a related strain of Ruminococcus lactaris, not the sequenced strain.
This species has been identified as a resident in the human gastrointestinal tract based on the phylogenetic framework of its small subunit ribosomal RNA gene sequences.[PMC 4262072]
