Identified as constituent of skin microbiome. [PMC2746716]
This genus contains microbial species that can reside in the human gastrointestinal tract. [PMC 4262072] Gram-positive short rods that occur in chains. Spores are not formed. Nonmotile. Obligate anaerobe that produces acetate and lactate from glucose.
DNA G+C content (mol%): 32–34 (HPLC). Type species: Coprobacillus cateniformis
Coprobacillus is found to be the genus with strongest interactions by value in the ecological network. Specifically, it appears to primarily inhibit all the other microbes, including C. difficile, with the exception of Akkermansia and Blautia which also show inhibitory effect on C. difficile.
