Accessory Apps and Tools

In addition to its core apps, Opus 23 Pro also contains several apps with a more limited scope of action. However, these apps can be very helpful under specific circumstances. We've also included a few extra tools to make your job a bit easier.

PUBMED CRAWLER

PUBMED CRAWLER allows you to perform a traditional search of PubMed. Depending on the article, it may supply you with additional information from the Opus 23 Pro databases.

Getting around PUBMED CRAWLER

From the 'Informatics' link on the main menu, hover over 'Tools Extra' until a second menu list appears, then select PUBMED CRAWLER.

Use the search facility to find articles on PubMed, displayed in order of publication date. The maximum number of articles displayed per page can be changed by toggling the drop down menu in the top right of the search results page. On loading an article abstract, a link to the article page if available will be displayed, along with related articles, and Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) terms if available.

If an Opus 23 Pro editor has rated the article or added gene-agent associations, these will also be displayed on loading the article.

TOXINFORM: In-depth exposome data

TOXINFORM is a toxin/target tissue database search engine.

The exposome is defined as the totality of all human environmental exposures from conception to death. It is often regarded as the complement to the genome, with the interaction between the exposome and the genome ultimately determining one's phenotype. The 'toxic exposome' is the complete collection of chronically or acutely toxic compounds to which humans can be exposed.

Getting around TOXINFORM

From the 'Informatics' link on the main menu, hover over 'Tools/ Extras' until a second menu list appears, then select TOXINFORM. You will be presented with the TOXINFORM search box. Type any search term and press the 'Run Toxinform' button.

TOXINFORM will return any data that includes the search term. This will include:
  • Description
  • Toxin type
  • Synonyms
  • Exposure Routes
  • Mechanism of Toxicity
  • Metabolism
  • Cellular Locations
  • Lethal Dose
  • Carcinogenicity
  • Symptoms
  • Treatment
